Life Of Pi - Movie Analysis

Title: Life Of Pi

Genre: Fantasy Fiction

Characters: Pi (Piscine), Richard Parker (tiger)

Settings: At first it was in India and then the ocean

Plot: A boy named Piscine, from India was bullied because of his name which everyone calls him "Pissing Patel". He was named after a swimming pool in France. After getting tired of the bullying, he changed his name to Pi, a mathematical symbol. His family owned a zoo where his interest in animals started. Pi was born Hindu for they are Indian but as he grew up he was introduced to Christianity and Islam religions. When he was 16, his father decided to move in Canada and planning to sell the animals before they will reach Canada. They traveled via ship and after a couple of days they met a storm and it's the reason why the ship sank and all of the people inside the ship including Pi's family and the animals died but except for Pi and four other animals. Pi is the only human survivor luckily he has a life boat and with him are the zebra, the orangutan, the hyena and Richard Parker. The hyena ate the zebra and the orangutan and Richard Parker ate the hyena. After many days of being together surviving the life in the ocean, Pi and Richard Parker discovered a floating island with many meerkats and in the night it turns to a carnivorous island. The fresh water turned acidic, he saw a tooth and it was there, he knew that he would not survive on that island. The next morning he took off saved food for him and Richard Parker. As they went along, they were close to the Mexican coast where Pi is really, really weak so he passed out on the sand. Richard Parker left Pi without even glancing and other Indians saw Pi lying on the sand an rescued him. Japanese insurance agents questioned Pi what really happened but they wouldn't believe the true story Pi is telling them so Pi told another story where the cook is the hyena, the zebra is the sailor, her mother is the orangutan and him as Richard Parker.

Theme: Having faith in God and believe in yourself that you can do anything if you just believe in Him.

Symbolism: Pi and Richard Parker. Pi really tried harder in order to befriends with Richard Parker which is a tiger and we all know that Richard Parker can rip his body in just a snap of fingers. He trained the tiger and never gave up. Never give up on the things that will make you better.

Questions:

1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole?

The Life of Pi, it talks about the life of Pi who was shipwrecked and had been living with a tiger in the middle of the ocean for many days.

2. Among the characters, to whom can you relate to?

I think I can relate to Pi, first he has three religion and he survived alone with a tiger in the middle of the ocean. That's like me, well not really like me but I just think I can relate to him. I haven't three religions but it's about the faith he has to God. I may not be a religious person but my faith is always there no matter what. He survived in the middle of the ocean alone, I haven't experienced that yet but in my problems I have, it is because I believe that in every problem, there is always a solution.

3. Which part of the presentation struck you the most? Why?

The part where Richard Parker was very weak and I thought he was gonna die. Why? Because I hate seeing people or animals die in a movie, specially when it's an animal. I hate that.

4. What is the movie's message?

For me, it's about, of course your faith and to believe that there are better things to come. It's not always about good stuffs that will happen that there are also bad stuff. Life is not fair, it wasn't always fair.

5. Did I like this is general? Why?

Yes, because the message that the writer wants us to see, we saw it. The movie was very touching and indeed a great message for all those people who think they are useless in this world.

6. Did I agree with the main theme/purpose? Why or why not?

Yes, I agree. Because life has ups and downs, every people in the world will experience that even though you try not to but it will come. Just have faith and believe.

7. What specifically did I like/dislike? Why?

I like it when Pi tries to train Richard Parker. Though, we can't really train tigers because they are very aggressive and dangerous. Well, Pi never gave up until he trained the tiger.

8. Are there any aspects of theme which are left ambiguous at the end? Why?

None. The movie was clear and understandable and the stories and connected so, no. :)

9. How does this film relate to the things that are happening in your life?

Since this movie is about faith, religion, believing in yourself you can do things if you won't give up. I can pretty much apply this. Challenges and other problems that I may encounter, I'll just remind my self that you can't really give up if there's something you can do about it. Keep moving on.

KEEP CALM AND DREAM ON...

A Bed Of Clouds

© Ashley L. May

I sleep in the clouds, dream in the sky
I'll keep dreaming as life passes me by
I think my dreams keep me sane
I dream of happiness, a life without pain

Some people say I'm stuck in this place
and I'll never go anywhere
But in my dreams I've already been there
I know some day I'll have to wake up

But I feel the real world is more like a nightmare,
I'm safe in my closed eye wonderland
This poem goes to all the dreamers that understand,
no matter what they say...
keep your dreams but don't dream your life away

I have chosen this poem because I always like to dream. To dream what would my future life would be and what I always wanted to be. I mean, my blog even say "Hey, daydreamer". I like to imagine things how they are like to be in the future, for example having kids is like the top of it, but I have to finish school and get a job and get a guy to have kids with (LOL) and I have to undergo every consequences there is to make it. If you dream of something be sure that you always know how to get back to reality and that doesn't mean you should dream your life away, which leads to my favorite lines...

"This poem goes to all the dreamers that understand,
no matter what they say...
keep your dreams but don't dream your life away"

The lines are pretty much true, every person can dream about their life and other things and they are the only ones who can understand it. We have our own personalities and own opinions that is why we are unique in every way. But dreaming for other people means, it is their reality but I tell you it is not. I have experienced it and it was really depressing. At first you are in your own little perfect world and in just a snap of  finger you're back into reality and it will make you really sad. Be optimistic enough to dream big but also, be realistic enough to make your dreams come true. Reality is the worst, even when you're daydreaming about your crush and suddenly you realize that reality is waving right back at ya and you have no choice but to wave back (don't be rude). I mean that is just a right example, but  the reality will help you do your best for you to make it. Be strong, move forward and DREAM on...

CUP SONG ERRRDAY

CUP SONG

KEEP CALM, IT'S 2013!

Many had happened to me in the year 2012, and I can't believe how fast it went. So many things I learned more about life, about friends, and about many things I didn't know for the past years. Though things didn't go well as I expected but it made me thank God for all of it. Things that happened to you for the past years should make you the person who you are right now, you shouldn't forget it. Without those things you won't be able to find yourself and realize you were good then and you are better now.

In 2012, God made it very possible for me. I met people whom I would really care, who I would really trust and shouldn't trust. It made me more wiser and mature but that doesn't mean being immature wasn't a part of me in the year 2012. I could always be immature because it's part of who I am, I should just learn how to control it but it will never be gone. I realized that I met people that were very honest about themselves and they trust me as their friend and they don't know how happy I am because of that. In the past year for me was all about trust. I can't wait to know how 2013 would be for me and what will it be all about.

Don't stick to one thing when there are other things that could make you stand out more and that can make you better. Be an explorer, be a seeker and be YOU.

I don't really do resolutions, because I tend to forget it and be lazy to do it. But this year I have a list, I don't want to put it here either because I want it to be personal. Family is also part of it and they will always and will ever be important for me. We all know that life has full of challenges and surprises and I want to be a part of it. I'll just go-with-the-flow because I know God will never leave me. For the year 2013 I just want life to be simple and happy. I should be patient, I should have control and I should be able to think before doing things. So, 2013...BE GOOD!

LIMERICK

NEBRASKA JONES

There once was a girl called Nebraska Jones
She likes to collect little tiny stones
Her father took her to the city
For there are many stones to see
She likes stones because it rhymes with Jones.
